Woodford R. Porter Sr. was a pioneering entrepreneur, civic leader, and philanthropist who became the first African American member—and later Chairman—of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees. His leadership helped expand educational access and strengthen the University of Louisville as Kentucky’s premier urban university.

Harriett B. Porter, an accomplished educator and counselor, shared an equally deep commitment to education, mentorship, and community empowerment. Together, the Porters became known for investing in leadership development, educational opportunity, and lasting community progress.

Their legacy continues through the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship Program, the Woodford R. and Harriett B. Porter Building at the University of Louisville, and ongoing philanthropic initiatives that develop future leaders and strengthen communities.
